We Need You Birds

This morning I woke up to a COLD house! The AC had been left on too low and as a result there was condensation on the windows and chattering of the teeth! The gorgeous, golden sunlight that was streaming through my windows told me that it was much warmer outside than it was on the inside, so as I was about to get settled in to start my “Jesus Time” as I call it, I opened the French doors in our study to let in some of the warmth.

As I sat, I noticed some birds having a rather loud conversation just outside the door. I don’t know what kind of birds they were, but it sounded just like they were shouting, We need you! We need you! From the tree tops, from every corner of the yard, came the alarm, WE NEED YOU! WE NEED YOU!!

I couldn’t help but giggle to myself. One, because my silly imagination heard birds speaking, but also because isn’t that how it is so many times when we try to sit down for a few quiet moments with our Lord?! From all over the house we hear WE NEED YOU!!

From the laundry room, the dirty laundry cries, We need you! The dishes in the sink beg, We need you! The dusty furniture wails! Thefloors badly in need of mopping mopes, We need you! WE NEED YOU! The dog, oh yes, the dog. As I write this I can hear his pitiful whining on the other side of the front door saying, I NEED YOU… to let me in, and feed me!! (He’s so needy!)Even the cell phone chimes the alarm, as text messages dings their need for attention, We need you! Facebook, emails… WE NEED YOU!!!

When my kids were little, it was especially hard to find a little quiet time with the Lord. Quiet moments became a rare and precious jewel to me, but the Lord blessed the time I was able to give to Him, because He knew.

Like the widow in Luke 21 who, though her offering was small, the Lord saw the sacrificed and said, “This poor woman has given more than all the rest of them.” He knew!

Let us not allow the busyness of this world steal our time from the Lord. Yes, as moms, as women, many need us, but think about this. The Lord doesn’t “need” us! He chooses us. He WANTS us! He cherishes sacrifice and blesses it.

One of my dear friends once said something to the same effect. She and I, due to the Lord’s leading, started a small group, a support group if you will, for the midlife women of the church. We call it Java and Jesus. We were discussing the fact that the Lord always blessed our Java and meetings! We never left feeling hungry! Spiritually or physically. (We’re Baptist and well, a Baptists gonna eat!) Said friend, said, “It’s because we are all sacrificing something to be here.” Ain’t it the truth!!

Little is much when God is in it and God loves a cheerful giver… and blesses!

PS. I've FINALLY discovered that the "We Need You" birds are Carolina Wrens. Not their usual call, I myself have only heard this varition twice, but so thankful that the Lord tuned my ears to teach me a valuable lesson.
